Avoiding heart attack - first joint European-American Recommendations
The International Task Force for Prevention of Coronary Heart Disease in collaboration with
the International Atherosclerosis Society has prepared a
Pocket Guide to Prevention of Coronary Heart Disease
This guide, which easily fits into the pocket of a white coat, summarises the current scientific
evidence on how to avoid heart attack. Its 56 tables and 19 graphs offer:
- A concise presentation of all methods presently available to assess the risk of suffering
a heart attack within the next 10 years.
- For the first time, precise explanations on the advantages and disadvantages of using
scores, algorithm or risk charts for coronary risk assessment.
- Correction factors for estimating risk of suffering a heart attack in different countries.
- Concise recommendations for therapeutic life-style changes and drug treatment of risk factors
for coronary heart disease.
- Practical tips for reducing heart attack risk in specific groups
